Dojinshi- a comic about an anime/manga series which was created by a fan or multiple fans

Harem- a genre of manga in which a male protagonist is surrounded 3 or more female romantic partners

Hentai-means 'pervert' and is the equivalent of pornography

Josei - manga typically suitable for older females from 16-18+

Kawaii-means 'cute'

Lolicon- a genre of manga which typically portrays pre-pubescent girls in erotic situations. Thus, named after Nabokov's book Lolita.
( My collection does not contain any of this genre, which is only listed here for informative purposes !)

Magical Girl- a genre of manga in which the protagonist is female and has magical abilities

Manga- a Japanese comic book

Mangaka- the author of a manga

Mecha- a genre of manga which revolves around machines

Reverse Harem- a manga genre in which a female protagonist is surrounded by 3 or more male romantic partners

Seinen- a manga typically suitable for older males from 16-18+

Shoujo- a manga aimed at teenage females

Shoujo Ai/ Girls Love ( GL)- a manga which contains romantic relationships between women and is suitable for younger teens

Shounen- a manga aimed at teenage males

Shounen Ai/Boys Love ( BL)- a manga which contains romantic relationships between men and is suitable for younger teens

Yaoi- a manga which contains romantic relationships between men but is suitable only for 16-18+ readers

Yuri- a manga which contains romantic relationships between women but is suitable only for 16-18+ readers
